Wedding Traditions

Planning a traditional wedding can be loads of fun and a beautiful event. Be sure to have a checklist of all the things you need to do to prepare for that perfect day. Although wedding traditions are handed down from family to family there are some standard wedding traditions. For example, there is the father-daughter dance, the newly wed couple's first dance, the cake cutting and the throwing of the bouquet.

Let's start with the tradition of the father-daughter dance. This is a beautiful moment for both daughter and father. The father is letting his little girl go to someone else now, knowing he will not be the only one to protect and take care of her anymore. The daughter is leaving home, her safety nest and the last chance to bond with her father will be a memory both of them will treasure forever. It is usually the choice of the father to pick the song for the father-daughter dance. This gives the father a little more involvement in the wedding plans. The daughter can pick the father-daughter song. It is also good both the father and daughter know what song will be playing for the father-daughter dance. Wedding traditions usually always include the father-daughter dance. Those who do not have a father for the father-daughter dance may choose a friend or other male relative for the father-daughter dance. If for some reason you don't want to do the father-daughter dance that is acceptable too. The father-daughter dance has almost always been in every wedding.

Like the father-daughter dance wedding traditions will also include the bride and groom having their first dance. The first dance of the bride and groom represents the two people coming together as a couple. The first dance is when the couple is on the dance floor alone. Everyone gathers around for the couple's first dance and then later on joins them on the dance floor. The first dance usually takes place right after the cake cutting. The couple can choose any song for the first dance and some choose to pick a song where their first dance will not be so long. You can choose any type of dance you want to do for your first dance as well. After all, it is your wedding and the first dance should very well be your choice of everything.

The cake cutting is another one of the great wedding traditions and such a romantic moment. The cake cutting symbolizes the first meal for the newlywed couple. The couple will also make a toast at the time of the cake cutting. The cake cutting is also a signal letting friends and family know the wedding is over and it's now time to start the reception. Some of the bigger bakeries will demonstrate for a couple the best way for the cake cutting. This would be something good to know when it comes time for the cake cutting. Even though the cake cutting is a part of wedding traditions, many couples are no longer smearing cake in each others face. Those wedding traditions are falling along the wayside. After all, the cake is pretty expensive and so beautiful you wouldn't want to make a mess at the time of the cake cutting.

Back in the day, a bouquet was made of garlic and herbs. The bouquet was to ward evil from getting close to the bride. In another time era, the bride wore the bouquet in her hair. Some brides prefer their bouquet to be made up of certain flowers with each flower in their bouquet having a certain meaning. The bride carries and holds her flowers throughout the wedding. It is one of the wedding traditions to throw the bouquet at the end of the ceremony. It is said the lucky girl who catches the bouquet will be the next bride. The bouquet can be made however you want it to look. The newlywed bride will take flowers from her bouquet and keep in her wedding album. This is another one of the many wedding traditions.
