Jay Grubb Photography photographed this gorgeous garden wedding at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park in Florida. The couple chose this location for the diverse gardens which provided exquisite backgrounds to their photos. “With digital smartphones at almost every wedding as of late, I try to picture how the entire days photos tells the story as a whole not just a moment. I tend to be energetic and shoot from numerous angles giving couples an opportunity to choose their favorites during the proofing process,” said photographer Jay Grubb.
The bride wore a lace v-neck gown with an open back and the bridesmaids wore light purple knee length dresses.
The purple color theme was carried on by the groomsmen who each wore purple shirts with white bow ties and suspenders. The groom donned a grey vest with purple tie.
Having the ceremony outdoors in the garden provided a beautiful backdrop but was not without its issues. “Florida outdoor weddings are the most beautiful in my opinion. However, weather can always play a factor in any outdoor ceremony. On the day of, it was on the rather warm side with slight humidity in the air giving a slight haze affect. Having arrived earlier than scheduled to scout shots, I noticed this detail immediately and simply added a lens filter to accommodate,” said Jay.
“I love outdoor weddings with tropical vegetation and Kyrie and Jeremy’s entire day was perfection. With both plenty of shade and sunlight throughout the park, I couldn’t help but want to come back to shoot for hours. Friendly and generous, the couple’s family and friends were genuinely kindhearted and accommodating as I relocated getting shots throughout the day,” said Jay.
The reception was also held in the gardens of the state park. There was a casual atmosphere with no assigned seating and guests sat at communal picnic tables. Jars filled with moss and flowers and small trees were used as centerpieces.
The best man played guitar as the newlyweds had their first dance.
The wedding cake had adorable owl cake toppers and there was also an alternative chocolate cake option for the guests.
This photo was chosen as the favorite from the day. “I had walked away leaving the couple alone, hoping to capture that moment of true romance, unrehearsed. Using a zoom lens I had snuck behind some foliage across a small pond to see one of the most romantic gestures I had ever witnessed. As a photographer, I could not have placed them in a more natural or perfectly lit setting. The whole moment was perfection and I was eager to run home to see it on my screen. I, to this day, call it the fairytale shot,” said Jay.
“As with any wedding, I recommend going over the flow of the wedding with your photographer during a consultation. Not only can the photographer plan creative shots, but add creative insights to how the overall day looks from an outside perspective. Make time to have a consultation in person or via video chat with the photographer. Since, many couples have never worked with a professional photographer, I encourage this to also go over tips and tricks for posing and making beautifully captured moments,” said Jay.
