Wedding Registry

Giving wedding gifts has been a part of the wedding tradition for many years. The wedding gifting process can be stressful for the couple and their guests. The couple worrying about getting the same gifts or things that they don't want or need. The guests worrying about getting the couple the wrong gift or obsessing about the gift budget. This where a wedding registry comes into play and defuses all of the unnecessary worry and stress. This article will cover what a wedding registry is, how they work, and why they are helpful.

Wedding registries were created to make the "wish list" process easier for new couples. It de-stresses the process for both the couple and their guests. A wedding registry also allows guests to easily shop for the couple without worrying about if what they purchase is wanted or needed. The chance of duplicate gifts is also lessened.

A couple can sign up for a registry either online or inside the store they wish to receive gifts from. The store that they choose to register with depends on several factors. The couple may choose to register at a higher end store if they wish to receive more expensive wedding gifts. If the couple wishes to be more conservative, they may choose to register at a more budget friendly store. Occasionally, couples may choose to register at several stores to accommodate all of their guest's budgets. Couples may also base their store selection on their collective style.

For example, a couple who wants to get more expensive gifts would register at a high end store such as Bloomingdales. The couple would only be listed here and all guests would either have to purchase a gift from Bloomingdales or take the risk of buying a duplicate present from a cheaper store. A more conservative couple would most likely register at a bargain store such as Target. Target gives the couple flexibility to still receive stylish gifts but at a cheaper price. Registering at Target also gives budget flexibility to their guests. A couple who wanted to receive expensive presents but still recognize their guest's budgets could sign-up at both Bloomingdales and Target. They could state their store preference on their notification cards. This option gives their guests a budget friendly choice while allowing the couple to state their more expensive preference.

The process of establishing a wedding registry varies with the store; however the general consensus is the same. A couple decides on a store or stores they wish to register with and goes through the list of items the store has available. The item selection process can be done through either an accompanied in-store walk through, looking through catalogs -- in the store or online, or by solely registering online. The couple selects the items they wish to receive as presents and they add them to their registry under their last name.

When the couple has completed their wish list, they let their wedding guests know. Some couples may choose to notify wedding guests formally by sending out registry cards inside their wedding invitations. Other couples may choose to notify people through email or by simply using word-of-mouth. Having been notified, they can proceed to purchase wedding presents. They may also choose to purchase items in store or online. When purchasing in the store, guests can ask for an associate's assistance with locating the couple's list, or they look up the couple on an in-store computer station. Regardless of if the person shops in-store or online, using the couple's last name will give them access to the list.

Weather the person is purchasing online or offline, the store will continually update the list as items are purchased and let people know that a particular item has already been purchased. Because of the wedding registration, duplicate items are less likely to be purchased. However, getting duplicate gifts may still happen if a person price shops. Price shopping is when a person buys a present at a cheaper store. When this happens, the store's list is not updated showing that the item has already been bought and another person may purchase the same item from the store.

A registry also helps with tracking which person gave what present. This makes it much easier to send out thank you cards when the wedding is over. Usually when a couple opens their gifts, they have to keep a detailed list of the name of the person, the present they bought, and the mailing address. This requires a lot of organization and time that a newly married couple may not have. A registry eliminates this tedious process. Every person that purchases an item through the registry is asked for all of their contact information. This includes the person's name, phone number, and address. This data is automatically saved in the stores database so the couple can easily retrieve it when they find time to send out thank you cards.

Wedding registries help weddings run much smoother. It takes out all of the guess work and allows for the bride and groom to better enjoy their wedding day. The new couple will be excited about opening wedding gifts, knowing that they have gotten exactly what they wanted.
