“A handmade mountain wedding in Colorado! Candice and Jake’s wedding was a beautifully detailed, rustic wedding. It was such a unique and inspiring wedding to shoot! The couple had been planning their wedding for over a year, with every little detail coming together perfectly for their wedding day. There were tiny bottles of home made rum and bourbon vanilla extracts on every table, making the whole room smell amazing. They used corks for the seating assignments, chalkboards for the menus, and ethereal ribbons marking the bride and grooms’ chairs. Some of my favorite details were the funky hand made boutineers for all of the groomsmen. They did such a great job creating the perfect setting for the perfect wedding day!”

Kimberly and Alex had a great Cape Cod wedding with the ceremony at Dowse’s Beach Dock and reception at the grooms family house in Cotuit. The ceremony was set up on a dock on the water, while the reception was in a tent with lights strewn above it. This couple simply had so much fun putting together a fairly simply but stunning wedding with firm emphasis on family and friends. They had very nice catering with crab cake sandwiches, sliders and a great assortment of cupcakes.

“Michael and Katy were married Saturday, August 27 at the Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, MD. Michael is in the Navy and both he and his bride traveled from Florida, where he is stationed, to be married at the Academy. This was a very memorable wedding because it was when Hurricane Irene was damaging the east coast. The storm raged outside, but the wedding went on! There was no power at the reception and the reception itself was in a tent outside up against a mansion wall. The bridal party actually went out to get a self powered battery for the DJ otherwise they would have had no music! The flaps kept blowing in knocking things over and the floor had numerous puddles, but everyone wore a smile! The reception ultimately had to be moved to a local hotel because downtown Annapolis was shutting down due to flooding.

Katy and Michael had a full size mailbox at the reception with their last name on it for people to write notes to them. They had a traditional wedding cake as well as a groom’s cake in the shape of a plane since Michael is a pilot in the Navy. Their reception was nautical themed. They had little lanterns on tables and on each dining table had a framed number with a nautical map in it.”

This was such an incredibly FUN wedding to work on because the Bride and Groom were so relaxed, creative and knew exactly what they wanted from the beginning. They knew they wanted an intimate, non-traditional wedding that showcased their unique tastes and personalities. They chose a private residence in Palm Springs that had fantastic design appeal and inspiration! This desert-retro, fully furnished home was the perfect setting for their closest friends and family. Choosing black and yellow as their main theme colors to match the interior of the home, we designed the retro decor, tables, backyard ceremony, cocktail and dinner spaces to transport guests back to a mid-century Summer evening. The floral design was comprised of potted desert succulents for the centerpieces, billy buttons, and bright yellow spider mums in white modern vases combined the desert theme with the modern retro vibe. Guests enjoyed American-bistro style cuisine; mac and cheese, sweet potato fires, mini sliders, fruit salad and much more, all served in mini paper cones, serving spoons and martini glasses. After dancing and vintage movies projected on outdoor screens, guests were invited to the front of the house for an evening treat to cool the desert heat with a full service retro dessert truck!

Every couple wants their special day to be fondly remembered by their family and friends. Here are some clever ways to help make your reception enjoyable and memorable for all who attend.

1. Get creative with your guest book. Provide a table with Polaroid cameras and a blank book with unlined pages. Invite guests to take snap shots of themselves and double-stick-tape them into the book, signing the page along with a brief message. Another option, instead of a guest book, would be for guests to sign the surrounding matte on a commissioned painting or photograph of the newlywed couple.

2. Pictures are the ultimate keepsake. So, renting a photo booth is a great way for friends to take a piece of their evening home with them. The photos taken can be either sweet or downright silly.

3. Consider bringing an ethnic flavor to you reception if you have strong cultural ties to your family background. Cocktail hour is a perfect opportunity for guests to sample some exotic hors d’oeuvres. Ethnic dances, like polkas, the Jewish horah, and salsa dancing, are entertaining ways to invite guests to take part in your heritage.

4. Try to create unique table cards for guest seating. Keep it original and fun. For example: A Christmas wedding could have the names of Christmas carols on tables instead of numbers. In lieu of everyone clinking their silverware against their glasses for the bride and groom to kiss, guests can stand and belt out the Christmas tune from where they have been seated.

5. Special entertainment during mealtime, such as an opera singer or magician who travels from table to table, will give guests a memorable time.

6. A video slide show that includes a question and answer segment with the bride and groom is a fun addition to dinner. Friends love seeing the bride or groom put on the spot; and baby pictures are always popular.

7. Candy isn’t just for children. Guests of all ages will enjoy a candy bar with glass jars and bowls filled with the bride and groom’s favorite treats, whether they are jelly beans, sour patch kids, nuts, or licorice. Little decorative bags with ties or stickers should be provided for guests to scoop out snacks and take home some sweets.

8. A post dinner beverage bar, with baristas preparing specialty coffee drinks, like flavored lattes, cappuccinos and other espresso beverages, is a delightful addition to any reception, and the perfect touch to complement a decadent wedding cake.

9. Spice things up on the dance floor. A snowball dance is a fun way to get everybody dancing and mingling. Silly props such as feather boas, hats, and inflatable guitars, also serve as a great way to encourage people to cut loose and get a little crazy.

10. A comfortable place set apart for guests to relax and enjoy conversation will bring refreshment to those needing a break from the dance floor. Cozy couches, pillows, and low lighting will enhance the mood.
